Her Mountain Menage Page 4
What in the hell had triggered such a realistic dream? She could feel her pussy was wet. She reached down and ran her fingers through the creamy liquid and sighed. It had only been a dream, but she’d bet her vibrator that she’d come during it. Her body had that delicious sated feeling that she only got after a particularly fruitful self-love session.
I’ve never come during a dream before. No matter how erotic it was. What is going on with me?
Diana didn’t have an answer for that. All she could do was turn over and fall back to sleep. Maybe when she woke up, she’d have one.
Chapter Five
“I say we call her this time,” Quinn said.
“What are you going to talk to her about?” Kyle asked, shoving his hands on his hips.
“Stuff. Ask how she is. Find out what she does for a living. It’s too hard texting asking all that shit.”
“Are you ready to ask her out?” Kyle asked, narrowing his eyes.
“Well, yeah. Aren’t you?”
“We still can’t get down the mountain. It’s going to be a couple of days unless the temperature warms up,” Kyle said.
Quinn shook his head. “You’re always so negative.”
“No, I’m not. I’m realistic. If you plan to ask her out, make it for Friday or Saturday night. It should be safe by then,” Kyle said.
Quinn nodded and pressed Call on his phone then pressed the speaker button. It rang three times before Diana picked up.
“Hello.”
“Hey, Diana, it’s Quinn, and Kyle is here, as well. How are you doing?”
“Hey, guys. I’m fine. What about you?”
“We’re fine. Going stir crazy, but okay,” Quinn said.
“I know what you mean,” she said.
“What have you been doing while we’ve been snowed in?” Kyle asked.
“Working. I work from home, so I don’t get snow days. What about you guys?”
“Neither do we,” Quinn said. “Just would be nice to step outside without freezing our nuts off.”
“That was oversharing, man,” Kyle said with a groan.
“Uh, yeah. Sorry. We spend so much time up here I forget to watch my mouth,” Quinn said.
Diana chuckled. “No problem. I get it. So, what do you guys do?”
“I do woodwork,” Kyle said.
“I write books,” Quinn said.
“Really? Books?” Diana’s voice sounded excited.
Quinn cringed. Was she going to be one of those crazy fans he sometimes got? What if she read his books and went crazy over wanting to meet him?
“Uh, yeah.”
“That’s really funny ’cause I write, as well. What are the odds that two authors live in Cozy like this?” she asked.
“That is funny,” Kyle said. “Quinn writes murder mysteries. What do you write?”
“Romance books,” she said with a laugh. “While I might have read something from Quinn, I doubt either of you have read anything by me.”
“Chances are pretty good about that,” Quinn said with a laugh.
“What kind of woodwork do you do?” Diana asked Kyle.
“Mostly animals and keepsake boxes or jewelry boxes. I do custom pieces. Keeps me busy,” Kyle said.
“I’d love to see some of your work. Do you have a website?” she asked.
Kyle rattled it off to her. Quinn waited until he thought she’d had time to get it down then spoke up again.
“Do you have plans for Friday night? We’d like to take you out to eat,” he said.
“Oh, well. No, I don’t. That would be nice. Will you guys be able to get down the mountain?” she asked.
“Yeah. The weather was above freezing today and is supposed to make it to nearly forty tomorrow, so we should be fine,” Quinn said.
“Sounds like fun. I don’t go out much, so it will be a treat to have a nice dinner and visit with someone.”
“Give us your address, and we’ll pick you up Friday evening about six. How is that?” Quinn asked.
Quinn wrote down her information and repeated it back to her. “Sound right?”
“That’s it. I guess I’ll see you guys Friday then,” she said.
“See you then,” Kyle said.
“Good-bye, Diana.” Quinn hit End and relaxed in his chair. “That went well.”
“Is that not crazy though? She’s an author like you are. You’ll have a lot in common to talk about even if you don’t write the same genre,” Kyle said.
“She seemed pretty interested in your woodworking though. I bet she’s on your website right now looking at your work,” Quinn said.
“Maybe. She doesn’t have to love my work to fall in love with me,” Kyle pointed out.
“True, but you need something in common for her to be interested. This won’t work if she’s completely focused on me and not the both of us.” Quinn sat forward and clasped his hands between his knees.
“We’re jumping to conclusions already, and we haven’t really even met her outside of loading her groceries and a few texts. We might discover she isn’t the one for us, and worrying about if she’ll like both of us equally is jumping the gun. We need to take it one day at a time,” Kyle said.
“One date at a time.” Quinn stood. “I’m going to get a beer. Want one?”
“Yeah. Are you through writing for the day? Want to see what’s on TV?” Kyle asked.
“Sounds good. I’m at a good stopping point. I’ll get a good night’s sleep and start early tomorrow morning.”
Kyle followed him into the kitchen and took the cold beer from his hands. Quinn unscrewed the top from his and took a long drink before following the other man into the living room. He settled into his recliner and waited for Quinn to settle on something to watch.
“Documentary or a sitcom?” Quinn asked.
“Documentary. I don’t think I have the patience for a sitcom tonight,” he said.
“Ditto.”
They watched a couple of shows then called it a night. Quinn took a quick shower and dove into bed, excited about their date on Friday night. Only two days and they’d get to spend time with Diana to find out if they were the least bit interested in her. He was sure they would be. What wasn’t to like about the woman? She was witty, smart, and pretty. The big question was, would she be woman enough to handle the two of them?
* * * *
Diana twisted in front of her mirror to check her slacks one more time. They looked okay, but were they too tight? She didn’t see a panty line, but was there one when she wasn’t able to see? She straightened up and smoothed down her blouse one more time. She’d changed clothes twice now. She was running out of time.
I don’t know why I’m so nervous about this. It’s just a dinner date with two men. It’s not a real date, date. It’s a friendly meal together. There are two of them, so it’s not a romantic date.
Her little talk with herself wasn’t helping. She was still nervous. She glanced at her phone. She had five minutes to get herself under control. When the doorbell sounded, she nearly screamed in surprise. They were early!
She hurried to the door then raced back to her bedroom and grabbed her purse, shoving her phone into it and grabbed her keys off the table. When she opened the door, it was to find both men standing out on her porch wearing jeans and sweaters and huge smiles.
“Hi, guys.”
God. Couldn’t I have come up with something better than that? Really?
“You look beautiful,” Quinn said.
“Love that blouse on you,” Kyle said.
“Thanks.”
“Are you ready?” Quinn asked.
“Yes. Let me get my coat and lock up.” After pulling on her coat and wrapping a scarf around her neck, Diana locked the door then slipped the keys in her shoulder bag.
“Let’s go,” Kyle said.
Quinn stepped down first. Then with Kyle holding one hand, Quinn reached up to give her his hand to help her down the steps despite the fact she’d made sure they w
ere clear earlier. They kept her between them as they guided her to the big Ford truck idling behind her SUV in the drive.
Quinn helped her up then reminded her to fasten her belt before he climbed in back. Kyle got in the driver’s seat and fastened his belt before carefully backing out of her drive.
“Looks like you’ve been shoveling snow. I bet you can get someone to do that for you so you don’t have to get out in it,” Quinn said from the backseat.
“I enjoy doing it. I don’t do much, just the sidewalk and enough on the drive that I can manage to get out if I absolutely have to. I like being outside whenever I can,” she said.
“Just be careful and don’t slip down and hurt yourself,” Quinn said.
“I am. I built a snowman the other day and ended up on my ass twice. I had a ball,” she said, turning slightly so she could look over her shoulder at Quinn. “I even tried to get my cat out in it, but she wasn’t at all impressed when she touched it with her paws. If ever a cat walked over snow, it was her. She raced back to the door screaming to be let back in.”
“You have a cat? What’s her name?” Kyle asked.
“Felicity. She’s a Bengal.”
“Like a Bengal tiger?” Kyle’s eyes grew wide as he looked over at her.
“Not really. Her breed came from crossbreeding a domestic cat with some hybrids used for experimentation. If you’re really interested in them, I can send you their history. It’s pretty convoluted,” she said.
“It sounds interesting. Is she very large?” Kyle asked.
“She’s nearly sixteen pounds and very long. She loves to hunt. She has play rats that she ‘kills’ every day. She’s quite vocal about it, as well. It can get tiresome if you’re not used to it.”
“You’ll have to introduce us to her when we get back,” Quinn suggested.
“Sure.”
“How does the steakhouse sound to you?” Quinn asked.
“Great. I haven’t been there in months,” Diana said.
When they finally pulled into a parking space fifteen minutes later, Quinn jumped out and helped Diana climb down from the truck, giving her his arm so she wouldn’t slip on any ice patches. When Kyle walked around, she took his other arm, and the three of them picked their way up to the restaurant’s entrance. The front stoop had been well salted, so there was no chance of slipping there.
The hostess smiled and welcomed them, asking if they wanted a table for three. At Quinn’s nod she escorted them to a table away from the windows and close to the gas logs that were in the center of the building with openings on both sides. Diana was pleased they would be near them since she was a little cold once they helped her off with her coat and scarf.
After a couple of minutes, their waitress hurried over and took their drink orders then let them know what the special for the night was. Diana already knew what she wanted. It had been a while since she’d had their boneless grilled pork chops.
When she folded her menu and laid it down Kyle looked up and grinned. “Already know what you want?”
“Yep. Grilled chops. I love them and haven’t had them in a while.”
“Sounds good. I’m getting a steak though. We pretty much stick with what we like, and that’s the ribeye,” Kyle said.
“How do you know that you wouldn’t like something else unless you try it?” Diana asked.
“We’ve tried a lot of things on the menu, but the ribeye is the best to us,” Quinn said.
She laughed. “I mix it up pretty often. What can I say? I like variety.”
“That’s good ’cause we’re a variety,” Quinn said with a smile.
Kyle groaned. “Really? You have to say something this soon?”
“What? I was just saying that if she likes variety, she’ll probably like us,” Quinn said.
Diana couldn’t help but laugh as they frowned at each other. “You guys are funny.”
“See? She likes us,” Quinn said.
“She feels sorry for me because I’m stuck with you all day,” Kyle said, shaking his head.
“I looked at your website, Kyle. I love what you can do with wood. Do you do anything with stone? Do you paint?” she asked.
“No. I sketch out ideas sometimes, but I don’t paint and I don’t work with stone either,” he said.
“So, what you have in your gallery is what you have for sale right now, but you take custom orders, too? That has to keep you pretty darn busy,” she said.
“It does.”
“Kyle has a waiting list of people waiting for him to finish their pieces,” Quinn said.
“That’s so amazing. I need to get on your waiting list for a sculpture of Felicity. I bet you could really capture her when she’s stalking. You’ll have to come see her when she gets in that mode,” Diana said.
“I can do that,” Kyle said.
Their meal came, and they were quiet for the most part while eating.
“How are your pork chops?” Quinn asked.
“Delicious as always. Really juicy.”
“Steak is good, too,” Kyle added.
Once they’d finished eating, Diana asked Quinn about what he wrote. “Do you write under a pen name?” she asked.
“Sort of. I write under Quinn Trevers. Trevers was my mother’s maiden name,” he said.
“Wow. I have read your books. I love murder mysteries, especially serial killers. Rock Bottom was one of my favorite books,” she told him.
“Thanks. Do you write under a pen name? I found a few romantic suspense books, but they’re all several years old. I figured you must have more out under a different name,” Quinn said.
“I do. I write under Sophia Lawrence. Let me warn you though. They’re erotic romance books,” she said.
Quinn grinned. “Really. Like Fifty Shades books?”
“I’m so going to download some of them,” Kyle said.
Diana felt her face heat as they grinned at her. She should have refused to tell them her pen name. Since Quinn had been open with his, she’d felt she had to be honest and give them hers. Now though, she wasn’t so sure that had been a good idea.
“I should have kept that from you guys,” she said.
“No way. I can’t wait to read one of your books. Do you have a favorite one I should get first?” Kyle asked grinning from ear to ear.
“Um, no. Just pick one I guess.” She wasn’t about to give them help. They were going to have to navigate her books by themselves. Nope. Not helping anymore.
“It’s getting late. We better get you home and get up the mountain before it gets too slippery,” Quinn said.
“I’ve really enjoyed dinner, guys. The food was great and so was the company,” she said, still needing to fan herself from earlier.
They helped her navigate the parking lot, and Quin once again helped her climb into the cab of the truck before getting in the back passenger seat. Kyle pulled out of the parking lot and headed to her house. When he stopped in her drive, she turned to wish him good night, but he was already climbing out of the truck. When her door opened it was to find Quinn had gotten out, as well. It looked like both men were walking her to the door.
“Careful on the sidewalk, doll,” Quinn said. “The temperature has dipped to freezing.”
She stopped outside her door then remembered she’d promised to introduce them to Felicity. She unlocked the door and pushed it open.
“Come on in and meet the cat. She’ll probably come running now that she’s heard the door.”
Sure enough, the big cat loped into the room before stopping just inside the doorway. She looked up at Diana then to the two men standing just inside the doorway. She arched her back and hissed long and loud.
Diana laughed. “Really, Felicity? They’re guests. You don’t hiss at guests.”
“I take it you don’t often have people over,” Quinn said.
“Actually, no. Other than repairmen, you are my first since I moved here. I’ve only had her a little over a year now. She’s a rescue. I adop
ted her from a Bengal rescue group and drove down to get her about fifteen months ago. She’s been a constant surprise.”
“I bet. She’s big. I’d hate to meet her in a dark hallway,” Kyle said.
“Funny,” Quinn said. “Do you think she’d let me pet her?”
“Honestly, I don’t know. I never would have believed she’d hiss at someone.”
Quinn crouched down and held out his hand palm up. Diana waited while Felicity sniffed the air then slowly stalked toward Quinn with her mouth slightly open. She stretched out her neck and nudged Quinn’s hand then rubbed her face against it before walking over to Kyle and sniffing his shoe. Then she turned around and raced out of the room.
“Well, I think that went well,” Quinn said, standing once again.
“She’s a beautiful animal with those markings. I’d love to sketch her and maybe see if I could come up with a way to capture her in wood. Maybe one day, once the weather clears up, I can spend a little time with her,” Kyle said.
“That would be great. I actually take her walking around the yard on a harness and leash, so she gets some outside time. Have to watch it though. If she manages to climb a tree, I’m stuck with my arm up until she decides to come down.”
Quinn burst out laughing. “I can just see you standing there trying to coax that big thing down. She is huge for a cat.”
“We’d better go. Thanks for having dinner with us, Diana. We’ve really enjoyed it.” Kyle walked back to the door. Quinn followed him.
Diana nodded and smiled. “I had a great time. Thanks for asking me.”
Before she realized what he was doing, Quinn bent down and kissed her lightly on the lips. The soft touch startled her, and she gasped. He didn’t press his luck by deepening the kiss but did lick along her bottom lip before stepping back. Then Kyle wrapped his hand behind her neck and held her still as he kissed her, as well. She inhaled his scent and realized that each man smelled different. She hadn’t even registered that until she smelled the soft pine and woodsy smell of Kyle. Quinn had smelled of leather and spice.
