The Alphas Claim Their Mate
Kay is serving a sentence as a madam looking for a way out. Shade and Cain are wolfen who see her as their mate. How can she trust them when they are keeping something from her, and what is the use in trying when she’s tied to her job until she’s paid her father’s debt?
Cain and Shade see only their mate and don’t care what she’s doing for a living. They risk everything to get her to trust them to handle her problem. The fact that they are shifters in a world that doesn’t know about them makes their revelation dangerous but worth the risk to have her as their mate.
Can Kay trust them? They’ve agreed to help her take care of her ladies, and say that they can get her out of the mess she’s in, but their wolfen. Creatures that can shift into wolves at will.
Which is better: being eaten by the wolfen or working as a madam for a mob boss?

Chapter One
Glass shattered somewhere in the back of the building. Kay immediately pressed the clear, obscure button on the edge of her desk before standing up and checking that her panic button was in her coat pocket. Maybe it had been a good thing she’d decided on a pantsuit outfit tonight after all.
When she opened the door of her office, it was to find several of her security staff racing down the hall. It was rare that they had a problem serious enough that security was actually needed for more than their intimidating looks. She was glad to see they hadn’t gotten lazy or complacent. The clientele they served demanded safety and discretion above all else. It was her job as the manager of the establishment to ensure they had both.
“What is going on, Mike?” she asked the man who stood outside her door, alert and scanning the area.
“One of the clients got a little, um, frisky with Jeanie. The men have it under control,” Mike told her, never cracking a smile.
In fact, he looked a little more worried than usual. That had all of her self-preservation instincts on high alerts. If Mike was nervous about something, she needed to be doubly nervous.
“What are you not telling me, Mike?”
He stiffened but quickly relaxed. “Nothing. The guys are handling it, and Jeanie will be fine.”
“Perfect. Let’s go. I want to see who has gotten banned and find out for myself that Jeanie will be fine,” she said, stepping around the big man.
He grabbed her wrist, stopping her in her tracks. She looked down at the huge hand that had a gentle grip on her then up at him. She could see confusion on his face. That and a tiny bit of fear that he quickly hid.
“Let the men take care of securing things, then you can go check on Jeanie. It’s my job to make sure you don’t get hurt,” Mike told her.
“Correct. Now do your job, but let go of me. Now!” she demanded.
When he did with obvious reluctance, Kay stalked down the hallway in her three-inch heels, thinking that maybe she should think about keeping a pair of running shoes for emergencies like this. Walking on broken glass would be tricky in heels.
She reached the door where chaos had total control over the area and gasped. The glass above the headboard of the massive king-sized bed had been shattered and sprinkled the mattress and surrounding floor. The one above the bed was still intact. Several small pools of blood could be seen on the mattress and the floor leading to the bathroom. Once inside the room, she could see that the mirror in the bathroom had also been broken.
“What in the world happened here?” she asked no one in particular.
Two of her security team stepped out of the bathroom leading a half-naked man between them. The expression on the man’s face could only be described as insolent. He clearly didn’t like the fact that he was being led from the room with only a towel wrapped around his waist.
“I want my fucking clothes,” he demanded.
“Sir,
you will have your clothes returned to you once you are somewhere safe.” Kay stepped within a foot of him. Mike immediately stopped her there.
“Who the fuck are you?” the man asked.
“I’m the manager of this establishment, and you’ve broken the rules and, from what I understand, put one of my employees in danger. That is not tolerated. You are no longer welcomed here,” Kay told him.
“Fuck you! You can’t keep me out if I want to come in. I’ll make you sorry you touched me, much less kicked me out,” he ranted.
“Get him his clothes, allow him to dress, then get him out of here,” she told the two men holding the troublemaker. “Mike, make sure his folders are on my desk as soon as possible. Now, where is Jeanie?”
“We moved her to the room across the hall. It wasn’t being used, and she was pretty shaken up,” one of the guards at the door told her.
Kay walked across the hall and, after knocking lightly on the door, opened it and walked inside. Jeanie sat with her legs tucked beneath her in one of the wingback chairs in front of the gas fireplace. She had a blanket wrapped around her nude body with what looked like a towel wrapped around one of her feet and several small cuts from glass fragments sprinkled across her face and shoulders.
“Jeanie? Hon, are you okay?” Kay dropped to her knees in front of the woman in obvious shock. “What can I do for you, Jeanie? Do you need a doctor?”
After a few silent seconds, the other woman slowly lifted her head to focus on Kay. Fear unlike anything she’d ever seen filled the young woman’s face. What had that idiot done to scare her like that? Surely just breaking the glass hadn’t been what had Jeanie’s eyes so traumatized. Had he threatened to cut her with a piece of it? Why?
“What did he do, hon? Tell me what I can do to help you,” she said.
Jeanie stared down at the floor when she spoke. “I—I think I’m going crazy.” She looked up again. “H—he started changing or something. His eyes t—turned yellow and his hands got hairy with long c—claws.”
“Oh, Jeanie. Did he drug you? Did you drink anything while you were with him?” Kay asked, smoothing down the frightened woman’s hair.
“No. I never drink or eat when I’m with a client. Not unless it’s one of my regulars. I’ve never seen this one before.” Jeanie looked up at Kay. “Am I crazy?”
“No. You’re not crazy. I’m going to have you taken to the hospital to get the cuts on you checked out. The one on your foot must be pretty deep. It’s bled through the towel they wrapped around it.” Kay stood up and kissed the top of Jeanie’s head. “Don’t say anything to anyone about what you saw, hon. They’ll automatically think you’ve been drugging it up. Especially considering where you work. I don’t want them harassing you.”
“D—don’t worry. I don’t want to end up in the psych ward.” She looked up at Kay again. “You won’t let him come back, will you?”
“No, Jeanie. He’s not allowed in here again. I’m going to send one of the security team with you and find one of the other ladies to go with you. If you’re not back by the time I get things cleaned up here, I’ll come see about you. Okay?” Kay prayed the woman’s injuries weren’t serious enough she would need to stay overnight. She was safer there at the club. Kay didn’t want her to go home yet either.
“I need to see the owner or the manager immediately,” a deep voice was saying when she walked out into the hall again.
“Sir. I’ll get the manager, but could you please remain up here? Please, sir.” Mike sounded really spooked. That didn’t bode well.
Kay hurried to the front to find Mike standing in front of two amazingly handsome men who were even larger than the biggest men on her security team. One had shaggy black hair that hung loosely just grazing his shoulders. His dark eyes followed her as she walked toward them. The other one had thick bright, fiery red hair that curled in spirals just a few inches longer than the first guy’s. His light blue eyes could easily be described as icy cold except for the spark of fire that flickered there.
She realized she’d been staring at them for a few seconds when it registered that Mike had his head bowed and looked defeated. Who were they? What power did they wield that would cow her best security man? She narrowed her eyes. Something wasn’t right. Even as she thought this, Kay could feel the heat and weight of their stares. Places in her body she’d never allowed free began to burn, as well. Why were they having this effect on her? She didn’t react to men’s stares or their attentions.
“What can I do for you gentlemen? I’m afraid we are closed for the rest of the evening,” she told them. “I’d offer you a drink, but the bar is closed, as well. Maybe you’d like to return tomorrow night?”
“We are here to see the manager and pick up our employee. I understand he’s made something of a nuisance of himself,” the redheaded Adonis said.
“I’m Kay McKennie, the manager of Creature Comforts. It’s a pleasure to meet you, Mr.…” She held out one hand and waited for one of the two men to clasp it.
Finally, the one who’d spoken smiled and took her hand. Instead of shaking it though, he bent over and, after taking a quick sniff at her wrist, hesitated before turning it over and kissing the back of her hand.
“My name is Cain, and this is my business partner, Shade. It is indeed a pleasure to meet you, Kay McKennie.”
Shade, the dark one, stared hard at her before holding out his hand, as well. She wasn’t expecting the same treatment as his partner, but Shade followed the same process of first sniffing at her wrist then turning her hand over and kissing the back of it. Both men stepped back, but with them, it didn’t look like a retreat, more like a preparation for a fight.
“It’s good to meet you both. If you will give me just a second to take care of something, I’ll be glad to discuss your employee’s little indiscretion.” Kay took Mike’s elbow and led him a few feet away to whisper what she wanted him to do with Jeanie and who she wanted to accompany the traumatized woman.
Once she’d accomplished that, Kay watched Mike step away with one hand to his ear as he talked to one of his men to give him instructions. Kay ignored the rest of what was going on and returned to the two men waiting somewhat impatiently where she’d left them.
“Okay. Let’s go to my office where we can talk,” she began.
“There’s no need to talk. We’re just here to pick Timothy up,” Shade told her.
His raspy voice thrilled down her spine and centered at her clit where she moistened to the point she was sure she’d need new panties. Even as she grew wet, her clit began to throb. What in the hell was up with that? A man couldn’t just look at her or say something innocent that made her panties wet. She shook her head slightly.
“What?” Kay couldn’t remember what they’d been saying.
Shade said, “We just want to take Timothy off your hands. Then we’ll leave.”
I don’t want them to leave.
Where had that thought come from? Kay shook her head then looked over to where Mike stood watching them with his head still slightly lowered. That snapped her out of whatever had been screwing with her.
“Mike. Please go check and see if their employee is dressed and ready to go,” she said.
Mike left without a word, as if he was eager to leave their presence and put some distance between them and himself.
“When you determine the amount of the damages, please call. We’ll reimburse you.” Cain held out a business card.
Kay looked from the card to his naughty-boy good looks then reached out and took it from between his fingers. She didn’t bother looking at it to see what their business was called.
“Your employee will be here in a few seconds. There seemed to be a bit of a problem with his clothes. Mike will ensure he is dressed and ready to go as soon as possible.”
The fairer of the two’s brows furrowed. “His clothes? What happened to his clothes?”
“Um, he wasn’t wearing them.” She eyed the two men. “You do realize the
nature of this establishment, don’t you? Was your employee supposed to be working tonight?”
The two looked at each other, but Kay couldn’t tell what they were thinking. They were very adept at keeping their thoughts hidden. Shade cocked his head to one side and looked harder at her. Was that censure in his eyes? Oh, hell no. He’d better not go there.
“I’m afraid we were not paying attention to the name,” Shade said with a dangerous-looking smile.
“Nor did we imagine that such a business existed in a town the size of Hickory Hill. The next largest town is what, Fredericktown or maybe Farmington?” Cain took up where Shade left off.
“True, and that is why we are so popular. Most people who frequent our business don’t wish to travel all the way to Jefferson City, St. Louis, or Springfield, but they don’t want to take a chance of discovery in their hometowns either,” she told them.
“How can you work somewhere like this?” Cain asked. His mouth turned down in what she hoped was more of a frown than a sneer.
“Don’t you dare judge me, Mr. Cain! You know nothing about me and have no right to belittle what I do for a living.” She heard the familiar steps of Mike and the much lighter ones of the errant employee. “I do believe your Tommy is ready to leave now. He has been informed that he is no longer welcome here.”
She didn’t bother sticking around to witness the sweet reunion she knew it would be. Instead, she walked back down the hall to see to the cleaning up of the mess he’d made. Then she needed to check on poor Janie. No doubt the woman was frightened to death and embarrassed, as well. None of her ladies especially enjoyed their jobs, but they paid well and provided for their families when jobs were hard to come by.
